“Quite simply one of the most straightforward and effective hands-on therapies available”
Jane Alexander

This is a unique non-intrusive and gentle remedial hands-on treatment. The therapist uses thumbs and fingers to make a series of precise, rolling-type moves over muscles and soft tissue. During the treatment there are a series of short breaks where the client is left resting to allow their body to respond to the gentle moves that have been carried out. These ‘Bowen Movements’ allow the body to make subtle adjustments, which help rebalance, relieve tension and reduce pain.

Bowen Technique

What can Bowen help with?

It is a holistic therapy and can be used to treat the whole person not just the symptoms. Conditions that gain positive results include:

  • Back, neck or shoulder pain
  • RSI
  • Frozen Shoulder
  • Whiplash injury
  • Migraines and headaches
  • Constipation
  • Hormonal issues
  • Oedema
  • Anxiety or panic attacks
  • Asthma
  • Hay fever
  • Sciatica
  • Lower back pain/lumbago
  • IBS
  • Arthritis/joint pains
  • Sports injuries

What can I expect from a treatment ?

Bowen is very relaxing and gentle and many people tend to fall asleep during the treatment – usually the person will feel a deep sense of relaxation. The therapist in essence acts as a ‘facilitator’ by making the ‘Bowen Moves” it acts to stimulate the body to heal itself.

Normally the therapist will apply a series of moves on soft tissue ligaments and tendons and then leave the room for several minutes. These "Bowen breaks" allow the body to register what has happened and initiate the process of healing by making the tiny readjustments to bring the body back in to balance and harmony.

Bowen is unique in that due to the gentleness it can be used on babies, children and the elderly.

Key benefits of Bowen

  • The release of deep tissue fascia tension (muscle tension)
  • The increase of circulation
  • Increase Lymphatic drainage
  • Improve the elimination of toxins
  • Postural alignment

How many treatments will I need?

Usually it only takes 3-4 weekly sessions to gain relief from long standing issues. After the initial course of treatments maintenance or ‘top-up’ treatments are recommended to keep the body in good working order and prevent re-injury occurring.

Whilst receiving Bowen Therapy it is recommended that other treatments or therapies such as massage, physiotherapy and reflexology, are avoided.
